Meet Vertali’s summer 2026 ‘New To Z’ intake
Three new recruits have joined Vertali’s NTZ initiative – a five-year training and education program developing the next generation of mainframe professionals.
NTZ identifies talent and provides up to nine months of detailed preparation, followed by mentoring, on-the-job experience and mandatory training.
“NTZ is part of our efforts to close the skills gap and deliver for our clients while helping our own people to develop their careers,” says Mark Lupton, Talent Acquisition Manager at Vertali. “That means ensuring a supportive culture and workplace founded on skills development, knowledge transfer, and hands-on experience.”

Meet this year’s Technical Consultant (NTZ) joiners:
HARRY BARNES began studying Business Finance at university but realised that it wasn’t for him. He returned to his first love, computing before hearing about Vertali’s New To Z programme from a family friend.
Harry says, “NTZ was the first thing I learned about the company. After doing some more research I realised the true benefits of the programme: an enticing work culture and environment, with so many talented people coming together. I wanted to journey alongside them through what felt like a whole new world: mainframes. New to Z felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
LIAM MULHALL has been fascinated by technology from an early age, “taking things apart” and reverse engineering how they worked. Building a PC in 2021 reignited his passion, leading him to study Computer Science at Coventry University. He has a particular interest in cyber security.
Liam says, “Vertali stood out for its reputation, supportive environment, and focus. Hearing about the culture and team made it a company I was eager to be part of. Through NTZ I hope to grow technically and professionally, building a strong foundation for my career.”
JUDE RAFFERTY graduated in Cyber and Computer Security from the University of Gloucestershire in June 2025, following a BTEC Diploma in Information Technology. He enjoys exploring new technologies, solving technical problems, and finding practical solutions to complex challenges.
Jude says, “I was attracted to Vertali after hearing about its welcoming culture and people. Combined with the opportunity to join the NTZ programme and learn a new area of technology, it felt like the perfect next step. I hope to develop new skills, gain valuable experience, and learn from the people around me“
